Croat–Bosniak War

The Austro-Hungarian authorities’s determination to formally annex Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1908 (the Bosnian Crisis) added to a sense of urgency amongst these nationalists. The political tensions attributable to all this culminated on 28 June 1914, when a Young Bosnia revolutionary named Gavrilo Princip assassinated the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, in Sarajevo. The event set off a series of events that led to the outbreak of World War I. Although 10% of the Bosniak inhabitants died serving in the armies or being killed by the various warring states, Bosnia and Herzegovina itself managed to flee the conflict relatively unscathed.

The Bosnian authorities suspected that a Croat-Serb stop-fire was brokered, while the Croats objected that the ARBiH was not helping them in Croat-majority areas. By late 1992, Herzeg-Bosnia lost a big part of its territory to VRS. The territory underneath the authority of Herzeg-Bosnia became restricted to Croat ethnic areas in round sixteen% of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the first week of June, the ARBiH attacked the HVO headquarters in the city of Travnik and HVO items positioned on the front lines in opposition to the VRS.
